About AirPhysio
About Us
AirPhysio is short for Airway Physiotherapy, and the company started in 2016 with a dream of helping people with respiratory conditions. We understood that many people suffer from these conditions and natural therapy devices, although available, were relatively unknown and outdated.
We went about to develop a new and improved version of the current devices in the market. After talking to many medical professionals and people with these conditions, we realised that although the current devices were effective, not everyone with the conditions could use these devices and many people didn’t fully understand their condition or what was happening with their lungs. Because of this, we researched many of these conditions and put together both medical papers and simplified information about these specific conditions, what was happening and which current treatments are working and which require additions support from OPEP devices like the AirPhysio device to help turn back the decline of lung function in respiratory conditions.
We have since gone on a campaign of helping people to gain a better understanding of their condition and how to treat them better. This included appearing on the US and international TV show Modern Living with Kathy Ireland, 7 News and many other media with the goal of empowering people to help them change their lives.

Award Winning Status
AirPhysio’s international and national award-winning status and passion for helping to educate people about their respiratory condition through simple and easy to understand programs, lead them to be invited to appear on US TV show Modern Living with Kathy Ireland at the end of January 2018 which will be aired in April 2018.
Modern Living with Kathy Ireland
Paul O’Brien Managing Director of AirPhysio Mucus Clearance OPEP Device, on the set of Modern Living talking with Kathy Ireland of US TV and Bloomberg International about Lung Health and the AirPhysio Mucus Clearance OPEP device.
AirPhysio uses an all-natural Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure (OPEP) process to help clear and remove mucus from the lungs while helping to maintain or restore maximum lung capacity and improve breathing in a natural way.
The removal of mucus in the lungs is essential to help maintain proper lung hygiene which may lead to further infections and which may also lead to the reduction of effectiveness of medication. AirPhysio is helping to remove any obstructions and trapped air in the Alveoli (air sacs) which lead to loss of lung function (up to 33 ml per year).
AirPhysio can be used as an adjunctive therapy to prevent pulmonary complications in patients after surgery (i.e. cardiac and abdominal surgeries). The use of AirPhysio facilitates secretion mobilisation, prevents atelectasis, and increases lung volume of patients postoperatively.
These respiratory conditions require mucus clearance and/or lung expansion therapy:
- Asthma
- Atelectasis
- Bronchiectasis
- Chronic Bronchitis
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) – Emphysema and Chronic Bronchitis
- Emphysema
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Other conditions producing retained secretions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Does AirPhysio Work?
AirPhysio is a drug-free handheld Oscillating Positive Expiratory OPEP device designed to assist in the clearance of secretions from the lungs. It assists in improving lung capacity by conditioning the lungs, helping to loosen mucus build-up and assisting to open up semi-closed airways. When you exhale (breathe out) through the AirPhysio, your breath moves the steel ball inside.
The AirPhysio device:
Vibrates the airways, which loosens the bond of mucus to the airway walls for mucus clearance;
Intermittently increases endobronchial pressure (positive pressure in the airways), which assists in maintaining the clearing of the airways while a person exhales so that mucus does not become trapped as it moves up the air canal;
Accelerates expiratory airflow, which facilitates the upward movement of the mucus through the airways so that it can be more easily cleared. This combined action of vibration and pressure results in the mucus moving progressively up your airways until you can cough it out.
What are the Essential Features of AirPhysio?
AirPhysio consists of the following parts and accessories:
- Circular cone
- Stainless steel ball
- Child-resistant protective cover
- Mouthpiece and base
- Mouthpiece cap
AirPhysio is available in different steel ball sizes that allow individualized treatment according to age and tolerance of the consumer to airway resistance.
Small-sized steel ball provides less expiratory resistance and is ideal for children, as well as adults with low lung capacity, severe respiratory conditions or weak respiratory muscles (i.e. elderly and spinal cord injury patients).
Regular-sized steel ball is best for healthy, active individuals and adults with mild to moderate respiratory conditions.
What are the Contraindications?
