AirPhysio can be used as an adjunctive therapy to prevent pulmonary complications in patients after surgery (i.e. cardiac and abdominal surgeries). The use of AirPhysio facilitates secretion mobilization, prevents atelectasis, and increases lung volume of patients postoperatively.

AirPhysio is also a lung exerciser and respiratory physiotherapy device that is great for athletes and physically active individuals, as it increases lung capacity, reduces breathlessness during exercise, increases exercise tolerance, and speeds up recovery times after working out or training.

The AirPhysio device is an International Award Winning Product and AirPhysio is a National Award Winning Company.

In May 2017, the AirPhysio device was honoured an International “Best Product” award at the Yiwu Import Trade Fair. This is China’s 3rd Largest import trade fair with over 3,500 exhibitors from 100 countries.

In November 2017, the AirPhysio company was honoured with the National “Start-Up Business of the Year” award at the Optus MyBusiness award ceremony and was honoured with being named as 1 of 10 finalists for the “Business of the Year” award at the end of the night from 25 categories of businesses.

AirPhysio has distributed numerous medical papers about respiratory conditions included, but not limited to:

  1. Griffith Univerity Report – Validation of AirPhysio Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure (OPEP) Device,
  2. The Forgotten Condition of Asthma,
  3. How Smokers Lose Lung Function and Don’t Realise It,
  4. Why Is Breathing Harder As I Get Older,
  5. Removal of Pollutants from the Body and How Pollution Affects this Process,
  6. Occupational Dust and Particle Matter Pollutant Hazards.

AirPhysio’s international and national award winning status and passion for helping to educate people about their respiratory condition through simple and easy to understand programs, lead them to be invited to appear on US TV show Modern Living with Kathy Ireland at the end of January 2018 which will be aired in April 2018.

AirPhysio uses an all natural Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure (OPEP) process to help clear and remove mucus from the lungs, while helping to maintain or restore maximum lung capacity and improve breathing in a natural way.

The removal of mucus in the lungs is essential to help maintain proper lung hygiene which may lead to further infections and which may also lead to the reduction of effectiveness of medication. AirPhysio helping to remove any obstructions and trapped air in the Aveoli (air sacs) which lead to loss of lung function (up to 33 ml per year).

These respiratory conditions require mucus clearance and/or lung expansion therapy:

  • Asthma;
  • Atelectasis;
  • Bronchiectasis;
  • Chronic Bronchitis;
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD);
  • Emphysema;
  • Cystic Fibrosis;
  • Other conditions producing retained secretions.

AirPhysio is a drug-free handheld Oscillating Positive Expiratory OPEP device designed to assist in the clearance of secretions from the lungs.  It assists in improving lung capacity by conditioning the lungs, helping to loosen mucus build-up and assisting to open up semi-closed airways.

 When you exhale (breathe out) through the AirPhysio, your breath moves the steel ball inside.  The AirPhysio device:

  • Vibrates the airways, which loosens the bond of mucus to the airway walls for mucus clearance;
  • Intermittently increases endobronchial pressure (positive pressure in the airways), which assists to maintain the clearing of the airways while a person exhales so that mucus does not become trapped as it moves up the air canal;
  • Accelerates expiratory airflow, which facilitates the upward movement of the mucus through the airways so that it can be more easily cleared.

This combined action of vibration and pressure results in the mucus moving progressively up your airways until you can cough it out.

AirPhysio consists of the following components:Parts of AirPhysio Oscillating Positive Expiratory OPEP mucus clearance and lung expansion device for Asthma COPD Emphysema Bronchitis Cystic Fibrosis CF

  • Circular cone,
  • Stainless steel ball,
  • Child-resistant protective cover,
  • Mouthpiece and base,
  • Mouthpiece cap.

AirPhysio is available in different steel ball sizes that allow individualized treatment according to age and tolerance of the consumer to airway resistance.  Small-sized steel ball provides less expiratory resistance and is ideal for children, as well as adults with low lung capacity, severe respiratory conditions or weak respiratory muscles (i.e. elderly and spinal cord injury patients). Regular-sized steel ball is best for healthy active individuals and adults with mild to moderate respiratory conditions.

AirPhysio works in three distinct ways:

Stage I Mucus Loosening and Mobilization

  1. Gather a glass of water and box of tissues, relax and assume proper posture and position.
  2. Slowly inhale beyond a normal breath, but do not fill lungs completely.
  3. Hold breath for 2 to 3 seconds.
  4. Place AirPhysio in mouth, exhale through AirPhysio at a reasonably fast but not too forceful speed, using abdominal breathing. Do not empty lungs completely.
  5. Adjust tilt to feel maximum vibrations within chest and keep cheeks stiff.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for 5 to 10 breaths.

Stage II – Mucus Elimination

  1. Slowly inhale, filling lungs completely.
  2. Hold breath for 2 to 3 seconds.
  3. Place AirPhysio in mouth and exhale forcefully through AirPhysio as completely as possible.
  4. Adjust tilt to feel maximum vibrations within chest and keep cheeks stiff.
  5. Repeat steps 7 through 9 for 1 to 2 breaths.
  6. Initiate cough (or “huff” manoeuvre). Return to Stage 1 and repeat full sequence (Stages 1 and 2) until lungs are clear or therapy is over.
  7. Additional sessions may be added if necessary.

Breathing Exercise for Healthy Individuals

Do the following steps prior to initiation of exercise or training.

  1. Relax and assume proper posture and position.

Caution: This exercise may make you feel lightheaded.  This is normal due to the amount of carbon dioxide being exhaled.  When you feel lightheaded, take a break and breathe normally until the lightheaded feeling passes.  If you try to overexert and push yourself too far, there is a chance that you may pass out and lose consciousness.

Note: Clean AirPhysio after each therapy session and store in clean, dry location.

Contraindications:  Consumers are asked to consult their doctors/healthcare professionals if they are experiencing or are unsure if any of the following conditions affect them:

  • Untreated pneumothorax;
  • Tuberculosis;
  • Hemoptysis (coughing up of blood);
  • Oesophageal surgery;
  • Right-sided heart failure;
  • Middle ear pathology, such as ruptured tympanic membrane.

Caution: Choking Hazard

Keep out of the reach of children and do not allow the AirPhysio device be used by unsupervised children. The device is designed to be pulled apart for cleaning for multiple usage.  Because of this, some of the small parts like the stainless steel ball, protective cover and circular cone pose a choking hazard for children.
